Course 1: Political, Economic and Regulatory Environment

 

This course attempts to provide a snapshot of the Indian business environment, by focusing on its political and economic landscape. It would also highlight the major features of the regulatory framework as relevant to doing business in India.

Dr.S.Y.Quraishi

 

Chief Election Commissioner, Government of India, (Retd)Shahabuddiln Yaqoob Quraishi was the former Chief Election Commisioner (CEC) Government of India. Dr. Qurashi nrought to the Election Commision 35 years of distinguished track record in the civil service, at both Government of India and state governments. Prior to his joining the Commision, he was Secretary, Ministry of youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

 

He is an IAS officer of the 1971 batch from Haryana cadre. He has a Ph.D tesis was on "Role of Communication and Social Marketing in Development of women and children". he now pursues his interests in academics by teaching and mentoring at Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi in his capacity of Honorary Professor at the Centre. he is also involved in mentoring of CSR work by various corporates.

 

Faculty Profile:

 

Prof. Rajkishan Nair is an Associate Professor in Economics with around 15 years of experience in teaching and research. His areas of interest include developmental economics, sustaining traditional food systems, & entrepreneurship as a tool of fostering inclusive growth.

Dr. R. Narayanaswamy

 

Prof, of Finanace and Control, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore

 

Dr. R. narayanaswamy has a Bachelors in Commerce from the University. He is a Chartered Accountant (ACA) of Institute of Chartered Accountants of india (ICAI),Associate Member (AICWA) of Institute of Cost and Work Accountants of India (ICWAI) and a member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).He obtained his PhD in accounting from the University ofNew South Wales, Sydney. He joined IIM-B as an assistant professorin 1986. He has been a visiting fellow at manchestor Business School, United Kingdom and a Visiting Profesor at Osaka University, Japan. he has served as a consultant for a large number of companies such as Grindlays Bank, Barclays Bank, ONGC, SKF, Titan, Tata Consultancy Services and Tyco Electronics. He also served as the Assistant Director of ICAi, Madras from 1984 to 1986 and Assistant Manager at Steel Authority of India Limited, Madras from 1980 to 1984.

 

 

Faculty Profile:

 

Prof. Rahul Mishra has a mix of corporate and academic experience. He started his career with Derek O’ Brien & Associates as Relationship Manager. After spending 2 years in the corporate he shifted to academics and joined IILM in 2002. He has been teaching courses of International Business and Strategic Management. He has also conducted a number of MDPs with Corporate Executives and CII. He has published articles in Indian Management Journal published by AIMA, Business Standard and Eternal India. He has held various academic administrative positions at Undergraduate and Post Graduate level. Currently, he is the Head of Industry Engagement at IILM.

Ms. Rajkumari Mittal is an Assistant Professor in the Area of Operations and Management Science at IILM Institute for Business and Management. She has got over 15 years of experience in teaching and research. Her areas of research are Decision sciences, supply chain, sustainable development. She has various articles published in International Journals related to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. She has submitted her Doctorate work on “Green Supply chain “ to Banasthali University.

Assessment

 

The assessment of the module will be done through a 1000 words write-up in form of an Essay. The core of the submitted document will be analyzed on the basis of understanding the Indian perspective of subject, clarity and connectivity of thoughts, and sighted rationale of examples to support the version of thoughts.

Course 3: Social Entrepreneurship & Rural Markets – Making Sense of the Bottom of Pyramid

 

The demographic segment residing at the bottom of the socio-economic pyramid, has, of late captured the attention of the academia and business. In this course we intend to analyse the commercial and social marketing innovations, brand building and value co-creation practices developed by some of the organizations that are operating at the Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP). Hence the role of social entrepreneurship in building a sustainable society will be explored.

 

Faculty Profile

 

Prof. Sujit Sengupta is a post graduate in engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay with a Diploma in Management. Starting career as Management Trainee with M/s Philips India Ltd and serving for two decades he became the Marketing Manager of the Consumer Electronics Division. His last assignment of 10 years was with M/s Usha International Ltd. as Senior General Manager. With the vast experience of 35 years experience in industry he is now into a permanent teaching profession.For the last 7 years, Sujit Sengupta has been a Professor & Marketing Area Head at IILM, Institute for Higher Education New Delhi. He is a regular faculty at the PHD Chamber and conducts MDP’s on Marketing Strategy, Marketing Effectiveness, Customer Service Excellence, Selling Skills, Winning & Retaining Customers, Building an Effective Sales Force. He also writes case studies, publishes research papers and undertaken consultancy assignments.

Ms.Ruchi Shah is an Assistant Professor- Marketing and Sales, IILM Institute for Higher Education, Gurgaon. She has over 13 years’ experience, having worked with industry verticals like Hospitality, IT, Retail, and Education. Commenced her career with Sales and Marketing for consumer durables & IT products and eventually landed into Training & Content creation. Her forte lies in Sales and Retail Training. For over 6 years she worked on ideation, creation and conceptualization of retail and sales content for various Corporate Houses and conducting high end trainers’ programme.

 

She is currently enrolled with Symbiosis Institute for Research and Innovation, Pune for her PhD on “Online Retail”

Assessment

 

Caselet Analysis and Presentation

 

Case analysis in this module would require the students to thoroughly read the case and identify the situational problems. The solution of the case would involve designing a suitable analysis for solving the problems identified in the case.

 

The cases will be analysed in pre-decided groups by students, and the analysis will be presented in class. Feedback on the same will be provided by the instructor after the presentation of analysis.
